On Friday, May 20, 2016, Tootin’ Hills School of West Simsbury will host its second annual Simsbury Duck Race at the historic Drake Hill Flower Bridge on Old Bridge Road, just off the intersection of Drake Hill Road and Hopmeadow Road in the center of town.
The historic bridge is positioned perfectly over the Farmington River which will serve as the day’s racetrack for thousands of rubber ducks.
The racing format will be identical to last year's in that there will be 3 races: a Business Duck race, a School Duck Race and finally a Lucky Duck Race. Winners do not need to be present to win.
Tickets will be sold for the right to a number on a specific duck – hopefully a lucky duck. Ticket packages will also be available, providing more “ducks for the bucks” or more chances to win.
Local businesses will have the opportunity to get involved through various sponsorship offerings, including decorating a 10-inch Business Duck with business logos, colors, and/or "style" of goods/services. The Business Race winner will receive a golden duck trophy. Business owners do not have to be from Simsbury to participate.

The Old Drake Hill Flower Bridge
Originally designed and built in 1892, the Old Drake Hill Flower Bridge is located on Drake Hill Road in the center of Simsbury and spans 183 feet and carries a 12-foot roadway suspended 18 feet over the beautiful Farmington River. It was originally designed as a one lane, one way bridge used for vehicular traffic. It was replaced by a modern 2-lane bridge a few hundred feet to the North in 1992. In 1995, it was restored as a unique bridge.
